On the western front, following a year’s residency in Exeter where he learned to shout “best bitter!” in crowded pubs to satisfy his thirst, Alan received his Diploma from the Faculty of Astrological Studies in 1980. He subsequently served as the Faculty’s sole correspondence tutor for their North American student population in the years 1982-87.
After 15 years of consulting and teaching, he was introduced to Hindu astrology, and subsequently earned a BA-Jyotish from the American College of Vedic Astrology. He studied for 12 years with Hart de Fouw, arguably the most eminent jyotish teacher in the western hemisphere. He’s been a regular speaker at the Sedona Vedic Astrology Conference series, and in online symposia and webinars, often as a representative of jyotish among western astrologers.
He’s written three books for western sidereal astrologers: Mutual Reception, The Draconic Bowl, and The Passionate Planets, utilizing principles of traditional western astrology. His books on Vedic astrology, which have been praised for the quality of their research and writing, include Kala Sarpa, Parivartana Yoga, Kama Yoga, and Stellar Astrology, Volumes 1-4.
He’s also written seven crime novels. His NEW AGE NOIR mystery trilogy (Scorpio Rising, Felonious Monk, Soma County) feature an astrologer protagonist, whom one reviewer dubbed “Sherlock Holmes with a horoscope.” He also writes celebrity profiles and current event articles for his website, and provides educational posts on his YouTube channel (@AlanAnnand).

I was soon to learn that the universe had other ideas! But what was really revealing for me was the study of Astrology. For Astrology has highlighted all that has happened to me, all my potentials, all my weaknesses, my creative and Spiritual attributes, including the catalyst that was to take place during my middle years. It was like having a window thrown open onto the real me. So, for me, Astrology is hugely Spiritual, it is the coded language of the universe, it informs us of our challenges between the Ego and the Spirit of which we all have. And so, by analysing a client's natal chart, I can draw on my psychic and mediumship insights to help sort out all those contradictions within the human persona, pinpointing the weaknesses, and highlighting the potential in all areas of life.

The birth chart or horoscope shows the exact position of the planets at the moment of birth. I look at character analysis, relationships, career, vocation, meaning, individuation and understanding of events earlier in our lives . I use transits and progressions to see what is going on for a client in the here and now and what may be coming up in the future. I, therefore, feel that I cover a lot of ground which you might say combines the traits of left brain with right brain. I follow the rules but I also work intuitively; I study what has been laid down over centuries and link that with the more modern, more psychological techniques.

I work with astrology from a psychological perspective - mainly theories taken from Carl Jung (1875-1961) the founder of analytical psychology. In astrological counselling, I integrate your natal chart into the session. The chart is a symbolic image of your personality & psyche. It helps me to understand YOU and, to explain & clarify to you your behaviours, attitudes and thought patterns.
In the following example, a client wanted help for relationship issues. During counselling I referenced her natal chart to explain and clarify how she relates (Venus) and her emotional needs within relationship (moon) - as these planets mirror the archetypal forces at play. Archetypes are forces or drives common to all humanity and life on earth.
With time she began to accept her make-up and to work with herself rather than against herself. It was if the chart gave her permission to accept difficult traits and situations which she had previously denied. The astrology helped her to relate in a way aligned to her nature, with both herself and to others.
The natal chart enables me to understand my client. I use astrology to ‘amplify’ / elucidate how a client experiences the archetypes and to clarify which archetypes are at the core of their complexes. Astrology helps understand the unconscious communication and dynamics which occur between counsellor and client, i.e. projection and transference, helping to identify the hidden archetype.
Astrology benefits the therapeutic relationship as I am able to adapt myself to meet the needs of the client, e.g. in terms of psychological types or psychic functions, if my client is predominately an intuitive type (fire in astrology) I am able to respond in a fiery nature.

The Huber Method is based on the psychotherapeutic practice of Roberto Assagioli who believed that we are composed of various aspects of our personalities, which he called sub-personalities. As in any group of characters, these various aspects of ourselves don t necessarily get on with or agree with each other and we can so easily get caught up in identifying with one or other of them believing that they are our real self. When we don t really know who we are and why we behave in certain ways, our sub-personalities are more likely to be reacting to people and circumstances in habitual and sometimes inappropriate ways, many of which were learned in childhood when our aim was just survival.
Through analysis of your chart, as you begin to become aware of these many parts of yourself and how they are living your life for you, you will be able to start the process of synthesising these into a united whole. To integrate them, you will first need to disidentify with them, which you can do by moving into the empty circle in the centre of your chart which represents your real, inner self, or I . From there, instead of being a passenger of your life, you ll be able to take over the controls, and instead of leaving it to fate or these sub-personalities, start living your life in a more direct, positive and fulfilling way.
In my practice, I prefer to give an in-depth written analysis, as I believe that having something you can absorb and refer to time and time again will be more beneficial, and invaluable for your psychological growth. I can answer questions about what’s going on in your life, in the trade that is called horary astrology. I can consult your birth chart and work with you to find the broader patterns of your life, once we know what those patterns are we can discuss how best to work with them, this is the ever-popular natal astrology. I can help you to help you figure out when the best times to start relationships, careers, businesses, and even diets, this is known as electional astrology.
If we have already worked together on your birth chart, I am able to do year or month look-ahead consultations. In these we find out what the themes of a year or month will be and when major issues are likely to complete. This allows you to take advantage of opportunities and avoid potential pitfalls.
My approach and qualifications
I am firmly rooted within what is known as traditional astrology. My emphasis is on the concrete, and I am well versed in classical, medieval, and early Modern astrology. This is the same astrology that was leveraged by the kings, princes, and potentates of the past.
I started my studies in 2014 under Christopher Warnock who is well known for his work with the Picatrix and horary astrology. I then studied Hellenistic Astrology under Chris Brennan of The Astrology Podcast. Natal Astrology I have earned my Diploma of Traditional Predictive Natal Astrology from Sharon Knight the well-known tutor and Chair of the APAI and studied under the prolific translator Dr. Benjamin Dykes, where we focused on the writings and techniques of the Arabic-Persian astrologers of the 8th-9th centuries.

I’m a consulting astrologer working one-to-one with clients for ten years. I’m interested in individual stories and human psyche focusing on psychological, modern and archetypal approaches in my work, ranging from natal chart analysis to annual forecasts. I tend to

They are seeking suggestions as to how to move forward and an awareness of times of both potential opportunity and challenges, and in what areas of life these may fall.
I use techniques from what is known as the traditional era which extends from early Greece up to the Renaissance period. This form of astrology is more objective as opposed to subjective. It helps you to be aware of the world around you, allowing a deeper understanding of yourself and the reasons why you react to certain events (and people) in various ways by examining your Humoural temperament. Traditional astrology is deeply spiritual, but does not deal with karma, past lives or any other New Age beliefs or doctrines.
By its very nature, astrology is the best form of life coaching.
How I work: Initially I will need certain data: your birth date, place and time of birth (as accurate as possible) and the reason why you wish to have an astrological consultation. Once we have had an initial chat, I usually ask you for events that occurred around certain dates in your past. This is so I can see how the planets may work when they become what are known as Time Lords.
My fields of expertise are in natal, horary, electional and mundane astrology. I cover career or vocational astrology, as well as relationship (synastry), business astrology, relocation, children s birth charts and annual forecasting.
I offer either (1) A full written report followed by a recorded zoom meeting to discuss any issues raised; (2) A recorded zoom session with a brief written synopsis, or (3) simple telephone consultations, as well as in person.
My background is as a qualified horary astrologer (QHP), answering specific questions. I was personally taught by the incomparable Olivia Barclay. I studied with the Faculty of Astrology up to Diploma level (I didn t take the final exam). I also studied directly with Robert Zoller in the late 1990 s who taught Hellenistic and Medieval astrological techniques.
